Hey, hey guess what? It is that time again! Okay, so my excitement this time has been more than a little dimmed as I have second degree burns on my shoulders. I kinda feel like crap. That aside, what I did see of the US opener against England made me hellishly happy. Luck goal, yes, but Green made a classic mistake. And regardless of what anyone might say, they showed up for that Game and England is in no way as good as they think they are.

Surprise, surprise there.

Anyway, I've not really got anything against England. It was a good game for us, we obviously feel better about it than them. That's in our favor.

Moving on- Germany fucking owned Australia last night. I have to say that I'm not surprised. I've never been surprised by Germany's group play, though. Well, no. That's a lie. There probably was one, at least, but I can't think of it. MUST NOT HAVE BEEN TOO MUCH OF A SURPRISE.

Anyway, Australia makes it to the Cup every four years. And I have to give them credit for doing it, and usually in the past they've had better showings than the US. But they've not grown, it seems. They have the second oldest squad in the tourny, maybe what they need is some fresh blood.

Just a suggestion, guys. Might want to look in to it. They clearly didn't come out to play against Germany, it was as if they'd already accepted the loss and just handed the Germans the game. That was boring. :| I can't believe I DVR'd that, it was so sad.

ANYWAY, I've got the scores as is. Which is what I'm gonna post before the Italy game starts. They are playing Paraguay. :| I predict they'll win, much to my disgust. Italy's a much more solid team than Paraguay. I'll be surprised if it is even a remotely difficult game.

Oh well, fuckers. Next game. Alright, here are the groups, and standings as is:

Group A:
South Africa

Group A games:
South Africa ties Mexico 1:1.
Uruguay and France have a scoreless game.

Group is effectively locked up at the moment. I suspect France will pull some magic out of it's ass somehow and advance. Mexico...also likely to advance. But at this point, without having watched either, I can't honestly say for sure. Just basing it on what I know of the teams from the past.

Group A, though, I don't suspect any of their teams to go beyond round 2. Write'm a check and send them all home, I say.

Group B:
Korea Republic (South Korea)

Group B Games:
Argentina 1:0 over Nigeria.
Korea 2:0 over Greece.

Honestly I think you have your one two already. Nigeria will probably beat Greece, but even then I don't think they can beat Korea. South Korea's been pretty impressive in the last few cups. I do think Argentina's going to beat Korea, though. They have more experience with the Cup. However, you never know.

Group C:

Group C Games:
Solvenia 1:0 over Algeria.
England and USA 1:1 tie.

USA proved it was here to play, which is good. In the past they haven't always come and played like they meant it. I'm happy with the tie. It beats the horrid 2006 opener against Czech. Lets face it, they play better when people say they'll lose. Anyway, this group should be easy. England and USA take it, question is who goes One and who goes Two.

All comes down to how well they play the other two.

Group D:

Group D Games:
Ghana over Serbia by one.
Germany 4:0 over Australia.

A typical Aussie showing. Not surprised by the German win, it wasn't a matter of 'if' Germany would win so much as 'by how much'. Solid show from a young team. Bit too much card fishing for my taste, but pretty much a German staple in soccer. They've got the group, no question. Ghana's going to go second, I've no doubt of that. Australia MIGHT make them work for it, but I really doubt that they'll recover from the Germany loss.

Best case for Australia is they win against Serbia and pull a tie against Ghana. Ghana's going to put a good effort for Germany, but won't pull out a win. Serbia's gonna go home without a win. Just my prediction there.

Group E:

Group E Games:
Netherlands over Denmark 2:0
Japan over Cameroon, 1:0.

Alright. I haven't seen these games yet, I have them DVR'd though. I'll just say that if I base it off what I know of the teams?

Nertherlands take group, Denmark pulls out for second. Japan has come a long way, but they still are too new on the international stage to be much threat. Cameroon, not gonna put much danger into the group. Denmark over Japan and Cameroon, Netherlands sweeps group. Pack it up and call it done.

Group F:
New Zealand

Group F Games:
Haven't been played yet. About to watch Italy vs. Paraguay. Honestly put Italy over Paraguay by one. Paraguay's a good team, but Italy has their 2006 squad.

The other two, mm. Slovakia over New Zealand. New Zealand is just too new of a team. If they pull it out, I'll get a tattoo, I swear. Slovakia vs. New Zealnad is tomorrow.

Group G:
Korea DPR
Cote d Ivoire

Group G Games:
Brazil will take group, done. Second to Portugal. No point to even having this group if you ask me. Cote d'Ivoire and North Korea shouldn't unpack, they won't been here that long.

Both games are tomorrow, Brazil vs. Korea and Cote d'Ivoire vs Portugal. Calling it 4 up for Brazil, and at least 3 up for Portugal. Korea and d'Ivoire are going to be fighting over who comes home with less shame.

Group H:

Group H Games:
Both games on the 16th. Honduras vs. Chile, and Spain vs. Switzerland.

Not much to say here. Spain sweeps group, Chile probably in second unless Switzerland pulls an upset with a Tie to Spain and win over Chile. Not likely. I pick Spain-Chile to go 1-2, easy group.

Now to watch Italy and Paraguay. So far, Paraguay's looking decent. I shouldn't sound surprised, but maybe there is something to say fro their 2-4-4 system. Still. Seems a little bit insane. Who takes a 2-4-4 formation in the World Cup?
